The No.78 lecture of Tsinghua Information School Forum was held in Main Building 511 on September 15. 2011. Dr. Lei Zhang from Department of Computing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was invited by Prof. Jie Zhou of Department of Automation to give a lecture of "Sparse Representation for Image Reconstruction, and Face Recognition?". In this lecture, he first introduced the theory and development evolution of sparse representation, then presented the application of the method using in image reconstruction. After that he described some hot issues based on the physical nature of the method and finally discussed whether sparse representation played an important role in face recognition. This lecture was hosted by Dr. Jianjiang Feng, assistant professor in Department of Automation, Tsinghua University. More than 50 faculty members and students attended this lecture.
Dr. Lei Zhang received his B.Sc. degree from Dept. of Aeronautical Engineering, Shenyang Inst. of Aeronautical Engineering in 1995, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree from Dept. of Automatic Control, Northwestern Polytechnic University in 1998 and 2001 respectively. Currently, he is an associate professor in Department of Computing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests are focused on sparse representation and low rank methods in image reconstruction and pattern recognition, image segmentation, image quality assessment and biometrics.
